"Getting it Right" – Delays in Launching Our 8 Tray Large Unit

WILLIAM SLENDERS • May 25, 2024

At D-Freeze, we pride ourselves on delivering top-tier freeze-drying technology that meets the highest standards of performance and efficiency. Our latest innovation, the 8 Tray Large unit, has been eagerly anticipated. However, we've had to delay its launch to ensure it performs flawlessly. This blog post will delve into the reasons behind this delay, highlighting our commitment to maximizing sublimation and optimizing cooling while adhering to our 15-amp power target.

One of the core challenges we've faced is achieving precise control over vacuum pressures to enhance the sublimation process. Sublimation is crucial in freeze-drying, transforming ice directly into vapor without passing through a liquid stage. Effective sublimation ensures that the freeze-dried products retain their original structure, nutrients, and flavor. Our goal has been to fine-tune our 8 Tray Large unit to maintain optimal vacuum pressures, facilitating the best possible sublimation rate.

Controlling vacuum pressures has proven complex, as it directly impacts the efficiency and effectiveness of the freeze-drying process. Too much pressure can hinder sublimation, while too little can extend drying times and compromise the quality of the final product. To address this, we have incorporated advanced sensors and control systems in the 8 Tray Large unit. These systems monitor and adjust vacuum pressures in real time, ensuring they remain within the ideal range for maximum sublimation efficiency.

Another significant aspect of our development process has been the cooling system. Initially, we utilized a cap end tub for the cooling process. However, through extensive testing and feedback, we discovered that this method did not provide the optimal temperatures needed for efficient sublimation. Our team has since redesigned the cooling system to use a new freezing control method that significantly enhances the unit's performance.

This new method involves a more robust internal cooling coil system. By redesigning these coils, we can achieve much lower temperatures, which are essential for effective sublimation. The new system not only makes the unit colder but also supports a much stronger sublimation rate. This improvement ensures that the products are freeze-dried more quickly and thoroughly, maintaining their quality and extending their shelf life.

Balancing these enhancements with our commitment to a 15-amp power target has been a delicate process. The challenge has been to incorporate more powerful cooling and vacuum control systems without exceeding the power limitations of a standard North American electrical circuit. Achieving this balance required innovative engineering solutions and extensive testing.

Our engineers have meticulously designed the new cooling system to be energy-efficient while still providing the necessary power to support strong sublimation rates. This involved optimizing the insulation, refining the heat exchange processes, and selecting components that offer high performance without excessive energy consumption. As a result, the 8 Tray Large unit meets our stringent power requirements without compromising on functionality or efficiency.

We understand that delays can be frustrating, but we believe that "getting it right" is paramount. The improvements we've made will ensure that our 8 Tray Large unit sets a new standard in freeze-drying technology, offering unparalleled performance and reliability. We are committed to delivering a product that not only meets but exceeds your expectations, providing the best possible freeze-drying experience.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we finalize the development of the 8 Tray Large unit. We are confident that the wait will be worth it and that our enhanced freeze dryer will offer the superior performance and efficiency you deserve. Stay tuned for more updates as we move closer to the official launch.
